Poetry

Tickled

Four feet in
to the Wilderness trail
the grasses
of Switch and Dropseed
tickle your face.

Prairie Broom
hangs like fishing line
And a single seed
of Button Bush
is the world
beneath
your fingers.

It is enough,
to have sticks
and cool creek beds
as divining rods.

Unbeknownst to you
The Oracle has come,

like manna—
From bees’ toes and
disgruntled cows
it feeds us—
wild-eyed creatures
seeking
extraordinary

Arcus

June at the Harbor,
and, still,
a cold front moves in.
A cloudless sky
swells and stretches,
then billows

around itself,
slowly, imperceptibly,
at first.

I watch
mouth gaping
to see it
fold over itself
again and
again.

The leading edge
rolls out
like taffy

quickly
consumed
by sky
