Landward: Readings of Place & Season

Poet Catherine Young, producer of the podcast “Landward: Readings of Place and Season” is seeking poems from Wisconsin writers (18 years of age and up) in cooperation with WDRT Community Radio (Viroqua, WI 91.9 FM) and with a grant from the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.

Submission window is open from September 15 to October 31, 2024.

Selections and notifications will be made in early 2025.

The poems will be recorded for broadcast October 2025 through September 2026 and repeated the following year. Following the radio broadcasts, each program will be available in podcast form for download, and the audio file will remain on the WDRT website indefinitely.

Guidelines

Please submit 1-2 poems for consideration. Each poem must tell something about a place in Wisconsin, the Upper Midwest, or some other location – with a strong preference for our region. Poems about rural life or specific Wisconsin spaces are especially welcome. The poems will be selected by the producer of Landward who will record them. For more on Catherine Young, visit http://www.catherineyoungwriter.com/

Only send poems that can be received by all ages as the poems selected will be broadcast on community radio. Previously published poems are welcome if the poet has permission to use them. Note that recording a poem for radio and podcast is a form of publishing. Only submit poems that you wish to have published. Work from Wisconsin writers in under-represented communities is welcomed.

In submitting poems for consideration, entrants acknowledge no artificial intelligence was used to generate the work.

How to Format and Send Poems

Your 1-2 poems should be:

  • left aligned

  • single spaced

  • typed in 12-point Times New Roman

Paste the poems into the body of the email.

Following the poems in the body of the email, please give the following information:

NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE, EMAIL

Put titles of the poems and your last name in the subject line in this way, e.g. MYBEST FINEPOEM my name.

(Please do not use underscore or hyphen or any other mark in subject line as it will not work with an adaptive system which the producer must use.)
