BIO:
Mary Louise (Van Harpen) Peters works with words by day, plays with words by night. A four seasons Wisconsin citizen, she has called Madison, Rhinelander and La Crosse home, and has worked throughout the US as an educational consultant. Professionally, her writing relates to instructional process and technical requirements. She’s also a facilitator, working with the Center for a Courage & Renewal. Reflective writing is a focus of that work which she leads for those interested in exploring life’s questions related to vocation and purpose. Poetry has been a focus since her school years, and she has poetry published in several Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets annual calendars. Her work appears in the anthology, Stitching Earth to Sky, Waters Edge Press (2019).

Poetry
Amelia, Annabelle & Albert
1937
the hindenburg’s demise
amelia flew into mystery
the golden gate opened history
albert and annabelle
run and chase
at the play-yard gate
dash and dart
gravel crushes underfoot
children on the bus fume,
envious of their fun
mailboxes witness
annabelle stops.
albert runs.
sap-scented air
lumber truck thunders
tar and grease
mechanical brakes
unable to stop
albert’s last freedom
in the autumn sun.
Azure Grace
Calm, blue lake
how sweet the sight,
the sound of morning loons
geese heralding the mist
taught my heart
to hear I’m home.
Each step guided,
feathers found and path emerges:
yellow, blue, and white blessings,
peace, and hope
Grace, defined
and safe thus far,
I see.
