Judge’s Comments:
The Joy of Their Holiness by Peggy Turnbull. Turnbull's book considers a variety of subjects, from the joy of blueberries to memories of her father, a tuba player in a polka band, to various travel experiences. Throughout I had the sense that Turnbull pays profound attention to the world. She is a woman of faith but her faith is broad enough to include the reader who may not share it, in large part because she speaks in images. She is a poet of affirmations--sure that "Within /the concrete, love waits like a crocus in March," and I was willing to believe her.
