Undertones

Matisse is on the wall above my head tinting my hair in reds and golds.
Picasso is in the dark mirror, my eyeliner edged hard against pale skin.

Imagination dusts itself on the bedroom/studio curtain, the pillow, where
Chagall floats just over my ribs in readiness for heartbreak’s gesture.

On the wall, an ink drawing I recognize as mine, there at the street corner
in the blue light where two birdlike shapes sit waiting for the late-night bus.
