Forty-niners

Born in the midst of a boom,
we struck it rich,
mined the lode of free love,
rock nā€™ roll.
Now in our seventies
luck runs out.

I buy a supply of sympathy cards,
ready to send when friends
suffer loss.

Not much in the mail these days
until our claim is up.
