Painter and Poet

                       I

They walked along the seashore
below an azure sky.
The painter saw glistening light;
a gleam shone from her eye.

The poet felt waves crashing
with words for what he saw;
the bursts of wave on wave
instilled wonder and awe.

Artists drawn to a scene
by two artistic lenses;
a purity and a power
mesmerized their senses.

The poet took pencil to pad,
the landscapist brush to oils,
calling on their talents to
show the visions in their souls.

                       II

They created in studious silence,
when the poet noticed the time.

“You know, it’s been three hours …”

“Really, it’s been that long?”

“I’d say we’ve an hour’s light.”

So the poet and the painter
worked as counterparts;
upheld their distinct visions,
aligned their chosen arts;

touched a Force ever-young
Who animated the very light,
shaped an entire universe
that underlay both sound and sight.
