            jenny's hair
            got caught in the sun,
                  red
                              on
red.

apple blossoms came to watch.

jenny burned up.

the blossoms went away,
though,

when the moon came out.

Ethel Mortenson Davis is the current Poet Laureate of Door County along with her husband Thomas Davis. She has published seven books of poetry, and received an Outstanding Achievement in Poetry award from the Wisconsin Library Association. An anthology in Great Britain, Leaving, recently featured a collection of her poems.
