Dog/erel

This ghazal is my Muzzle,
a form that means—me—

or,

this guzzling is muzzling
me, forcefeeding meaning.

No!

you guzzle, I muzzle; your muzzle, my ghazal,
a dog, a dogeared page, this doggerel, really.

&

this is No Ghazal, and I need No Muzzle
[speak : speak : speak] to re-form Me:aning.

Emily Bowles is a poet who is always losing keys—keys to unlocking meanings, to breaking into storied houses where words are waiting to be set free. She studied English literature and feminist theory, which has shaped her approach to writing: she is always looking for ways to set other women free from prisons of her own imagining.
