Chair

The hand-hewn cedar
Adirondack chair your grandfather
built sat there for decades.
It was bright red, now weathered.
It looks uncomfortable
with its tilting seat, but it is not.
You are tilted upward. At night,
you can hear the flutters
of owls and bats.
You lean backwards and see shooting stars
and Northern Lights.
In winter, you watch snow bury it.
You can see everything from this chair.
You will keep this chair
for your unborn
children.
